Bank Holiday Bonanza For Durham City Juniors

On Sunday Durham City under 15s entertained touring Dutch side Hertza at Brandon Welfare and ran out worthy 3-1 winners. The Dutch boys settled first and went ahead before Elliott Hardy equalised. The visitors played some attractive football but as the game wore on the strength and tenacity of the Durham boys began to tell.
In the second half a fine through ball from Liam Potter to Max Blackbourn saw Durham take the lead as Blackbourn calmly slotted home and 10 minutes later after Benji Jackson had been brought down in the box Blackbourn doubled his tally as his penalty kick sent the Hertza keeper the wrong way to make the final score 3-1.

The game was played in a friendly sporting manner and team manager John Potter thanked both teams for putting on a good show.

Meanwhile Durham City Colts under 9s wrapped up the Russell Foster Spring league winning all of their games scoring 70 goals and conceding just 4. This development side was just put together by team manager Colin Soulsby at the start of the year and as a new team had to go into the lower divisions. No doubt this will have have gained them promotion when the leagues resume in June. The other under 9s play in the Premier league but with Felix Scott  (Sunderland) and Alex Graham (Middlesbrough ) having been lost to Academies some of the Colts will be looking to force their way into the first team. Well done Colts.

Back to Sunday and the multi trophy winning under 7s lifted the prestigious Filey cup winning the final match 3-0. Teams form all over the country attend this weekend festival and the Durham City youngsters did everybody proud by lifting the trophy. Team manager Andy Haslam was full of praise for the boys saying ' they were tired by the end but their enthusiasm and natural ability saw us through.'
